Food for Tommy ready for the trenches

These food-supply lorries are quite likely Dennis 3-Ton lorries. Powered by a four-cylinder engine, they had a top speed of 55mph. During World War I more than 7,000 of these Dennis 3-Ton lorries were built for the British Army.

In the decade before war broke out, the British Army had been planning how large automobiles might be used in a future conflict. The general staff realised that lorries would be required to transport troops at high speed. Part of this forward-thinking strategy was for the army to requisition motor transport from firms and public services during a wartime emergency, at a yearly rate of 15.

Food Revolution

Day 228 : August 15
Scavenge Challenge #14 : Think of someone (living or dead) whom you admire but have not met in real life. Without using an image of that person as a major prop, create a photograph which relates to them and why you hold them in esteem.

There’s a reason so many of my photos have something to do with food.

Since Jamie Oliver first appeared in The Naked Chef, I’ve enjoyed watching his television appearances. But over the past year and a half, he has completely changed the way I cook and how I look at food. We would rather cook than go out to eat. We use fresh, locally sourced ingredients whenever we can. We don’t buy "convenience foods" and don’t miss them in the least. I’m teaching my ten year old son how to cook.

But my respect for Jamie Oliver goes beyond the walls of my own home. From his project to move kids off the street and into the kitchen with his restaurant "Fifteen" to his quest to make school lunches healthy, to his Food Revolution, he has changed the way millions look at the way they eat.

From the educator standpoint, I’m thrilled because he has done all this in spite of a learning disability that caused him to struggle through his school career.

And to top it all off, his Instagram stream is a brilliant.

FOOD!

On Christmas Eve, there was a huge buffet, highlighted by ice sculptures. It took many man-hours to set up, and it was beautiful. They set aside about an hour for people to take photos. Then the food was available for eating!
I was still getting used to the new camera, and the flash setting was not correct. The light was way too narrow.

Obesity in America has reached a crisis point. Two out of every three Americans are overweight, one out of every three is obese. One in three are expected to have diabetes by 2050. Minorities have been even more profoundly affected. African-Americans have a 50 per cent higher prevalence of obesity and Hispanics 25 per cent higher when compared with whites. How did the situation get so out of hand? On this week’s episode of Fault Lines, Josh Rushing explores the world of cheap food for Americans living at the margins. What opportunities do people have to eat healthy? Who is responsible for food deserts and processed food in American schools? Fault Lines finds food revolutions taking place and speaks with the people that are fighting back. An abridged history of American-centric warfare, from WWII to present day, told through the foods of the countries in conflict. For a breakdown of the actual battles portrayed in the film, visit: www.touristpictures.com For the official cheat sheet (breakdown of the foodstuffs), visit: www.touristpictures.com Now, to answer some FAQs… – The food in this film was consumed either by myself or my dog after shooting. None of the cast went to waste. – The software used was photoshop and after effects. – The film took me 3 months to do. – Although it seems like stop motion, most of it was stop motion created within After effects, using keyframe animation. I am basically moving the food around within the the program, frame by frame, which is the same as traditional stop motion, only it’s digital.Food Fight
